Character of terrain and stream
The streams flowing from the Daisetsuzan system and the Hidaka Mountains are rich in water, and the loose land spreads in the area until it leaves the mountains and enters the plains. To the south of the valley there are many hilly small streams, and to the east there is a low basin adjacent to the wetlands.
What you need to know.
If you take stream water into your mouth, you need to be careful about Echinococcus. The Hokkaido Department of Health calls for adequate heating and hand washing as the infection is caused by stream water contaminated with insect eggs and by direct ingestion of vegetables contaminated by insect eggs. Do not drink raw water and wash your vegetables thoroughly. Since the ground freezes deep in winter, each city and village has a standard for the depth of filling the water pipe (freezing depth).

It describes the general trend of the whole prefecture, and does not necessarily apply to the individual places published. If the water flows throughout the year, or if it is in a disaster area or subject to regulations, please check with the local and municipal authorities for each land.
